Andrew and his mother June Marks have forged a reputation for intense and varietally pure wines. The Sauvignon Blanc is amongst the finest produced outside of France, with a minerality and savoury crispness not unlike Sancerre. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay represent a single-minded approach to letting these Burgundian varietals show their terroir and therefore the inherent quality of Gembrook’s vineyard.
About the Winemaker
The Sauvignon Blanc is amongst the finest produced outside of France, with a minerality and savory crispness not unlike Sancerre. The Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Blanc de Blanc sparkling represent a single-minded approach to letting these Burgundian varieties show their terroir and therefore the inherent quality of Gembrook Hill’s vineyard. Andrew also makes gin under his label MGC – Melbourne Gin Company.
The wine
"Wine is made in the vineyard" so the approach to winemaking is of minimal handling. The cool climate of the southern Yarra Valley produces a high acid, long-lived style of wine, with elegant and refined fruit flavours and balanced structure.
